NIU Construction Standards

The following standards apply to all university renovation and new construction projects from initial planning through construction and facilities maintenance. Consultant architects, engineers and outside contractors, as well as university facilities personnel, should be familiar with these standards.

Standards are categorized by division; they are a “living” set of documents and will be updated periodically. If you don’t find the information you need here, please check with your NIU project manager. These standards establish a baseline of quality for all NIU facilities; any deviation must be submitted for approval to your NIU project manager in advance.
